General Information
Firearms Safety Course (10618NAT) is a prerequisite to obtaining a longarms firearms licence in Queensland.
The course has a number of units that relate to the category of firearms under the Weapons Act 1990. You must complete the unit within the firearms safety course for the category of weapon you want to use. Once you have completed units of competency under the accredited course in firearms safety, you will be issued with a Statement of Attainment to prove your completion of the course.
Persons attending the firearms safety course must meet the following requirements
1. Be at least 11 years old (if you are aged between 11 to 17 you can apply for a minor's licence). Juniors must be accompanied by a parent/guardian
2. Reside only in Queensland
3. Be a fit and proper person. You will not be considered a fit and proper person under the Weapons Act 1990 if you have been convicted, discharged from custody on sentence, in the last 5 years of any of the following:
- offences relating to the misuse of drugs
- offences involving the use or threatened use of violence
- offences involving the use, carriage, discharge or possession of a weapon
Or if you have been named as a respondent in a domestic violence order (other than a temporary protection order).
4. Must not have any physical or other impairment which would prevent them from handling firearms safely
5. To register for this course you must provide a Unique Student Identifier (USI). Please follow this link www.usi.gov.au to obtain one
6. A separate booking must be made for each person
7. To be eligible for the junior fee, the junior must be aged 11 to 17 years as at the date of the course. If 18 years of age on the date of the course, the adult fee applies
