Noise Requirements for Night Shoots
Dear Pistol Section Member,
As our shooting calendar returns to normal, the scheduled night competitions have resulted in additional noise complaints about SSAA Brisbane from residents surrounding the Shooting Complex to Brisbane City Council. BCC has been in contact with the Belmont Shooting Complex management to address these complaints.
SSAA Brisbane has been asked by the Belmont Site Complex to implement a short-term strategy that will reduce the noise levels coming from our range for pistol, rifle, and shotgun competitions held at night.
To address the immediate noise concern, the following calibres and/or pistol types will not be permitted at any pistol shoot held after 5.00 pm effective immediately. -
- Magnum Cartridges (any case with a magnum headstamp regardless of loading eg 357Mag etc);
- Cartridges with supersonic velocities - greater than 1125 fps (some 115gr 9mm can be supersonic);
- 38 Super & .38 Super Comp;
- Race-gun style firearms;
- Ported barrels;
- Barrels with muzzle breaks or compensators.
- Any firearm that the Shoot Captain deems too noisy.
- 22lr Rimfire Pistols are exempt from these restrictions.
- And always, the use of FMJ ammunition is not permitted on the pistol ranges at any time.
All members need to understand that there is a serious risk that all night shoots may be cancelled across the Complex if the complaints continue so it is imperative that everyone
- Manages their own noise level and
- Talk to others that might not have received this email.
